Workshops on ICT in the EU 7th Framework Programme Held

To promote better understanding of the EU 7th Framework Programme (FP7) for Chinese enterprises, universities and research organizations in the area of information and communication technology (ICT) for their participation in FP7 projects to enhance the capability of innovation and research, Workshops on ICT in the EU 7th Framework Programme, co-sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Department of Science & Technology of Ministry of Information Industry (MII), was held in Beijing, Suzhou, Chengdu and Dongguan during 18 to 25 June, 2007. Government officials from the Department of International Cooperation of MOST, the Department of Science & Technology of MII, China Science and Technology Exchange Center, Haidian District of Beijing, Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Haidian Science Park, Administrative Committee of Suzhou Industrial Park, Science and Technology Bureau of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Information Industry Department, Administrative Committee of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone and Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau, together with First Counsellor for Information Society and Media Section of EU delegation to China and officer from Directorate General for the Information Society and Media of European Commission presented and addressed workshops respectively. Around 800 representatives of S&T department, Information Industry department, universities, research institutes and enterprises from cities and provinces close to the four cities attended the workshop.

 

Mr. Khalil Rouhana, Head of Unit for Strategy for ICT Research and Development, Directorate General for the Information Society and Media, European Commission was invited to present a detailed keynote speech on ICT in FP7, the priorities for the calls for proposals in 2007-2008, proposal evaluation process, the rules for participation and how to make a proposal. Some representatives from Chinese organizations gave presentations on FP6 IST projects in which they are partners and introduced the experience on FP6 projects they had, and discussed about the participation in FP7.

 

Technical visits were arranged after the workshops to several Hi-tech companies in Suzhou
